چکیده

The focus of this work is on the analysis of transmit beamforming schemes with a low-rate feedback link in wireless sensor/relay networks, where nodes in the network need to implement beamforming in a distributed manner. Specifically, the problem of distributed phase alignment is considered, where neither the transmitters nor the receiver has perfect channel state information, but there is a low-rate feedback link from the receiver to the transmitters. In this setting, a framework for systematically analyzing the performance of a general set of distributed beamforming schemes is proposed. To illustrate the advantage of this framework, a simple adaptive distributed beamforming scheme that was recently proposed by Mudambai et al. is studied. Two important properties for the received signal magnitude function are derived. Using these properties and the systematic framework, it is shown that the adaptive distributed beamforming scheme converges both in probability and in mean. Furthermore, it is established that the time required for the adaptive scheme to converge in mean scales linearly with respect to the number of sensor/relay nodes. Index Terms Array signal processing, convergence of numerical methods, detectors, distributed algorithms, feedback communication, networks, relays.

Distributed Beamforming using 1 Bit Feedback: from Concept to Realization

We present theoretical and experimental results for a distributed beamforming system based on a simple 1bit feedback algorithm. The algorithm is based on an iterative procedure, that synchronizes multiple transmitters to cooperatively send a common message signal coherently to a receiver, using only a single bit of feedback in each timeslot. Under this scheme, the transmitters make independent,...

Energy-Efficient Deterministic Adaptive Beamforming Algorithms for Distributed Sensor/Relay Networks

In this study, energy-efficient deterministic adaptive beamforming algorithms are proposed for distributed sensor/relay networks. Specifically, DBSA, D-QESA, D-QESA-E, and a hybrid algorithm, hybrid-QESA, that combines the benefits of both deterministic and random adaptive beamforming algorithms, are proposed. Rigorous convergence analyses are provided for all our proposed algorithms and conver...

Improved Directional Perturbation Algorithm for Collaborative Beamforming

This paper discusses the collaborative beamforming problem using improved directional perturbation approach based on one bit feedback scheme. There are multiple transmitters and one receiver in our setup, all the transmitters send a common signal synchronously, the receiver return a one bit of feedback to the transmitters. Each transmitter uses only the one bit feedback and local information to...

Deterministic Differential Search Algorithm for Distributed Sensor/Relay Networks

For distributed sensor/relay networks, high reliability and power efficiency are often required. However, several implementation issues arise in practice. One such problem is that all the distributed transmitters have limited power supply since the power source of the transmitters cannot be recharged continually. To resolve this, distributed beamforming has been proposed as a viable solution wh...

Distributed spatial multiplexing with 1-bit feedback

We analyze the feasibility of distributed spatial multiplexing with limited feedback in a slow-fading interference network with MN non-cooperating single-antenna sources and M non-cooperating single-antenna destinations. In particular, we assume that the sources are divided into M mutually exclusive groups of N sources each, every group is dedicated to transmit a common message to a unique dest...
